The Sultan's School was established in 1977 under the
sponsorship of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The
School seeks to provide a superior education which will
lead directly to Arab or Western Universities of the
highest standards.
The garden-like setting of our spacious 250,000 square
metre campus is unique among private schools in Oman,
offering a pleasant and tranquil environment in which
each student can have every opportunity to develop to
his or her fullest potential.
As the
leading Omani private school, one of our most important
missions is to increase student awareness of and appreciation
for the rich and varied cultural and religious traditions
of Oman and how they relate to life in a dynamic, forward-looking
and creative society.
Combining the best of the old with the best
of the new, the school strives to develop those habits
and attitudes necessary for success in an increasingly
interdependent world, including traits of responsibility,
integrity, initiative, perseverance and cooperation.
The School's excellent facilities, top-quality staff
and impressive academic record have made it the premier
private school in Oman for the past 30 years. The student
roll is around 1100 from Kindergarten I through to Grade
12. The curriculum is bilingual, with Arabic, Islamic
Education and Social Studies taught in Arabic and English,
Mathematics and the Sciences taught in English. The
Music, PE and Information Technology are taught in both
languages.
The English curriculum in The Elementary School is based
on "The English National Curriculum" and the
Arabic curriculum follows the Ministry's "Basic
Education Programme". In The Secondary School, the
curriculum is aimed towards preparation for the "International
General Certificate of Secondary Education" examinations
studied in grades 9 and 10. Current options outside
of the core, include Information Technology, Business
Studies, Economics, Drama, Art and Music. The International
Baccalaureate Diploma (DP) is studied in grades 11 and
12. The IBO Diploma Programme (DP) is a course of study
for students aged 16-19 years of age. The curriculum
is a broad one where not only is basic knowledge established,
but critical thinking and the process of learning is
emphasized (rather than simple recall).
The core of the model consists of: Theory of Knowledge
(TOK); an Extended Essay; and Creativity, Action, and
Service (CAS). In our TOK students explore the nature
of knowledge itself. They will develop the independent
research and writing skills required at tertiary level
by completing an extended essay (limit 4000 words).
Finally CAS participation ensures a well-rounded personality
by fostering awareness and appreciation of life outside
the academic area. These diplomas satisfy entry requirements
for universities in most Arab and Western countries.
Success in the "International Baccalaureate"
will lead to acceptance at the world's top colleges
and universities without the need for a foundation year.
