The concept for the school was conceived by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in 1974 and eventually opened in 1977. At that time there was very little formal education in Oman. His Majesty saw the need to provide a quality education for the future leaders of Oman.

The School is located in Seeb (a suburb of Muscat) and is situated on one of the largest campuses in the world. The School offers a bi-lingual co-educational education to 1200 students from  Kindergarten (KG) to Year 13 (Grade 12). Our curriculum is a combination of Omani and International (modified English National Curriculum, IGCSE and IBDP). Arabic, Social Studies and Islamic Studies are all taught in Arabic withall other subjects being taught in English.

We have 160 staff split between three sections of the school – Primary, Secondary and Administration. Our internationally recruited staff come from all over the world and include teachers from the UK, USA, Australia, South Africa, Jordan, Syria and many others.

The school year is based on 180 teaching days that normally runs from late August until early June. The school day runs from 8:00am until 2:45pm – but  our Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) programmes usually run until about 5:30pm. The working week is Sunday to Thursday.

The majority of our teaching staff live on campus. Accommodation varies from 1 to 3 bed-roomed apartments, chalets and villas.

To qualify for a position at The Sultan’s School, candidates must hold a recognised teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed or PGCE. The school does not recognise qualifications such as CELTA unless they are in addition to a B.Ed or PGCE.
