Dear The Sultan’s School,

Malalatiana Rasoanisina lives in Madagascar.

Malalatiana did not like collecting water. She told us “It  was slippery so I often fell down and I lost all the water
and so had to go back and collect more. Twice a day I  went and it gave me stomach ache as the water was
yellow. I couldn’t go to school and had to go to the doctor. I was sad to miss school.”

Thank you so much for your extremely generous donation of £2,843.76. Your continued support will
make a real difference to some of the world’s poorest people. Access to safe water and sanitation is a basic
right and we cannot live without it.

WaterAid has been able to work with our partner AMI in Malalatiana’s villiage to provide a hand pump for water
and proper toilets. Malalatiana told us “I like the new water because the other one was yellow and now it’s clean.”

This work is only possible due to your support.

Thank you for enabling children like Malalatiana to look forward to a better future.

Writing assessments 

The issue of setting school fees is always a potentially contentious one.  The responsibility for this at The Sultan’s School lies with the Board of Trustees and it is one which they take extremely seriously.  Their judgements are based on the needs, requirements and future requirements of the school, and the pursuit of the highest standards.  These are goals which all parents will recognise as being vital if our children are to gain the very best from their school years and be fully equipped for their lives beyond school.

The Sultan’s School is one of the top four schools in Oman and our fees are significantly lower than the others in that bracket, ABA, TAISM and BSM.  However, in order to ensure that The Sultan’s School keeps pace with educational developments in line with the very best of the systems in the world, we need to ensure that our investment in staff, resources and capital development is at a suitable and sustainable level.

I am confident that the new level of fees that the Board of Trustees has set reflects the above.  The School’s development plan will help ensure careful investment in the ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning, as well as in developing the range of amenities available for the students.  The decision of the Board of Trustees was a carefully considered one, designed to invest in the future of all our children.

I would like to thank all parents for their continued support of The Sultan’s School and the continued determination and effort to improve further the educational provision for your children.

الموضوع: الأقساط المدرسية الجديدة للسنة الأكاديمية 2013-2014

لطالما كانت مسألة تحديد الأقساط موضع جدل. ولكن هذا الموضوع في مدرسة السلطان هو بأيدي مجلس الأمناء الذي يعالجه بعناية فائقة وبجدية. يستند المجلس بحكمه في هذا الموضوع على احتياجات المدرسة، ومتطلباتها الحاضرة والمستقبلية، ساعياً للوصول بالمدرسة إلى أعلى المستويات. وما تلك إلا أهداف يعتبرها أولياء الأمور حيوية بالنسبة لأبنائهم كي يكتسبوا من حياتهم المدرسية أفضل ما يمكن، ولتحضيرهم تحضيراً كاملاً للحياة ما بعد المدرسة.

إن مدرسة السلطان هي ضمن المدارس الأربع الأولى في عمان، إلى جانب المدرسة الأميركية البريطانية، والمدرسة الأميركية بمسقط، والمدرسة البريطانية بمسقط، ولكن أقساطنا أقل بكثير من أقساط هذه المدارس. ولكن، كي نضمن محافظة مدرسة السلطان على مواكبة التطورات التربوية بما يتماشى مع أفضل الأنظمة التعليمية في العالم، نحتاج إلى أن نضع استثماراتنا في موظفينا، ومواردنا، وإنماء رأسمالنا، والبقاء في مستوى مناسب ومستدام.

أنا متأكد من أن سلم الأقساط الجديد الذي وضعه مجلس الأمناء يعكس ما ورد ذكره. إن خطة تنمية مدرسة السلطان تؤكد على الاستثمار الدقيق في التعزيز المستمر لعملية التعليم والتعلم، وعلى تطوير مجموعة من وسائل الراحة لطلابنا. لقد تأنى المجلس في اتخاذ قرار الزيادة، فقام بتصميمه هادفاً إلى الاستثمار في مستقبل جميع طلابنا.

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 11,

Please find below the final IGCSE examination schedule with the timing of the examinations. Please ensure that your son or daughter is in school at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the examination.  All examinations will start promptly.

Please note that on some days, certain students will be required to be in examination centre supervision.  These days are shaded on the timetable.  Students will be supervised by staff and not have access to mobile phone technology during these periods.  These arrangements are to ensure the integrity of the examination as examinations will be running at other centres and in different countries.

Cambridge have published KEY TIMES that student must be supervised at.  These are 09:00 in the morning and 13:00 in the afternoon.  ANY student who has an exam in the morning MUST be in school, registered and in the exam hall or in the supervised class room (G5) at 08:40.  Any student who has an afternoon exam MUST be in school, registered and in the exam hall or supervised classroom (G5) at 12:50.  Failure to do so will result in a breach of examination rules and could lead to Cambridge Examinations refusing to accept examination scrip from the student.

We would also like to bring your attention to examination leaving times.  Students who are sitting papers that are 2 hours or less will be required to remain in the exam hall for the entire period.  Exams longer than 2 hours will have a small ‘exit window’ after the 2 hours, in which students who have finished early may leave the exam hall.

Students will be provided with light refreshments on the days that they are supervised for a lengthy period of time and they will be allowed to revise. Students are also allowed to have their mobile phones to enable transport arrangements to be effective.  Please note that NO MOBILE PHONES are allowed in the examination hall.

For those students who have morning and afternoon examinations, lunch will be provided.  Please note that some examinations will run on a Friday.

All examination results are released on 13^th August.  Your son/Daughter will receive a log-in and pass word to down load the examination results once they have completed their sign-out forms and cleared finance. All results are analysed by the school and the administration for admittance to Year 12 before the IB then begins.

أولياء أمور طلاب السنة 11 الكرام،

الموضوع: معلومات حول جدول امتحانات كامبريدج والمواعيد الرئيسة

تجدون طيه جدول امتحانات الشهادة العامة الدولية للتعليم الثانوي (IGCSE) وأوقاتها. نرجو منكم التأكد من حضور ابنكم/ابنتكم إلى المدرسة قبل موعد بدء الامتحان بـ 15 دقيقة على الأقل. ستبدأ جميع الامتحانات في الأوقات المحدّدة لها بدقة.

كما نرجو التنبه إلى أنه في بعض الأيام يجب على طلاب معينين البقاء تحت الإشراف في مركز الامتحانات. هذه الأيام مظللة في الجدول. يشرف المدرّسون على الطلاب، ويمنعونهم من الوصول إلى الهواتف النقالة خلال هذه الفترات؛ وذلك للتأكيد على النزاهة، إذ أن الامتحانات تجري في مراكز امتحانات جميع البلدان بالوقت نفسه.

لقد أصدرت لجنة امتحانات كامبريدج مواعيد رئيسة لبقاء الطلاب تحت الإشراف. وهي  صباحاً  09:00  و 13:00 بعد الظهر. إن أي طالب لديه امتحان في الصباح يجب أن يكون قد وصل إلى المدرسة، وسجل اسمه في تمام الساعة 08:40، حيث يبقى في صالة الامتحان أو في غرفة صف تحت الإشراف . أي طالب لديه امتحان بعد الظهر، يجب أن يكون قد وصل إلى المدرسة، وسجل اسمه في تمام الساعة 12:50، حيث يبقى في صالة الامتحان أو في غرفة صف تحت الإشراف. عدم القيام بذلك يسبب خرقاً لقوانين الامتحانات، وقد يؤدي إلى عدم قبول لجنة امتحانات كامبريدج ورقة امتحان الطالب/الطالبة.

نود أيضاً لفت نظركم إلى أوقات مغادرة صالة الامتحان. على الطلاب الجالسين لأوراق امتحان تستغرق ساعتين أو أقل، البقاء في صالة الامتحانات طوال فترة الامتحان. أما الامتحانات التي تستغرق أكثر من ساعتين فيسمح بعد انقضاء الساعتين بخروج الطلاب الذين انتهوا مبكراً من صالة الامتحانات.

سنوفر للطلاب المرطبات في أيام الامتحانات، وسيكونون تحت الإشراف لمدة طويلة حيث يسمح لهم بمراجعة الدروس. يسمح للطلاب إحضار هواتفهم النقالة لتفعيل ترتيبات النقل، ولكن ننوّه إلى أن الهواتف النقالة ممنوعة داخل صالة الامتحانات.

سنوفر وجبة الغداء للطلاب الذين لديهم امتحانات في الصباح وبعد الظهر. نلفت نظركم إلى أن بعض الامتحانات تقع أيام الجمعة.

تصدر جميع نتائج الامتحانات بتاريخ 13 أغسطس. بعد التوقيع على استمارة إخلاء الذمة وتسديد مستوجبات مكتب المحاسبة، سيتسلم ابنكم/ابنتكم عنوان الدخول وكلمة السر لتنزيل نتائج الامتحانات. وستقوم المدرسة وإدراتها بتحليل جميع النتائج من أجل القبول في السنة 12 والبدء ببرنامج البكالوريا الدولية.

Dear Parents,

Owing to the change in the weekend and the Islamic holiday on Thursday, 6^th June, the internal examination schedule has been affected.  We have, however, worked very hard to create a new schedule that should benefit all students: we have brought the examinations forward by one week and have helped our students by building in home study days. We believe the revised schedule to be much more supportive of our students needs during the examinations as we have also managed to spread the exams over a longer period of time.

Please note that in the penultimate week, Year 7, 8, 9, will only need to come in school on Sunday. Year 10 will not be required in school for that week. (Please refer to the schedule.)

We have been asked to participate in the pilot of a standardized Arabic language test which could prove to be a most useful tool for our teachers. This will involve all Year 6 and 8 students. The test requires no revision and will be taken online during timetable time.

Primary students will follow their normal routines until their end of term celebrations:

Wednesday, 5^th June – 10:30, KG concert, Auditorium

12 noon, KG end of term

Sunday, 9^th June –            10:30, Year 1 & 2 concert, Auditorium

12 noon, Yr 1 & 2 end of term

Monday, 10^th June –        10:30, Yr 3 – 6 Prizegiving, Auditorium

12 noon, Yr 3 – 6 end of term.

أولياء الأمور الكرام،

 الموضوع: تأجيل موعد امتحانات المرحلتين الابتدائية والثانوية

 نظراً لتغيير عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، ولوقوع عطلة دينية يوم الخميس 6 يونيو، أجرينا تغييراً على برنامج الامتحانات الداخلية. وقد عملنا جاهدين لتحضير برنامج جديد يناسب جميع الطلاب، فقمنا بتأجيل موعد الامتحانات أسبوعاً واحداً، وأدخلنا أيام مذاكرة في البيت ليستفيد منها الطلاب. نعتقد أن البرنامج الجديد يلبي احتياجات طلابنا بشكل أكبر، إذ توزعت الامتحانات على فترة زمنية أطول.

نلفت انتباهكم إلى الأسبوع الأخير من الفصل حيث يوجد دوام مدرسي لطلاب السنوات 7 و8 و9 يوم الأحد؛ ولا يوجد دوام مدرسي لطلاب السنة 10 في ذلك الأسبوع. (الرجاء مراجعة برنامج الامتحانات المرفق).

لقد طلب منا المشاركة في اختبار تجريبي قياسي في اللغة العربية، قد يكون يكون مفيداً جداً لمعلمينا. وهو موجه لطلاب السنتين 6 و8. لا يتطلب هذا الاختبار أي تحضير، ويستم إلكترونياً خلال أوقات الدوام.

سيتبع طلاب الابتدائية روتينهم العادي حتى موعد احتفالات نهاية العام:

الأربعاء 5 يونيو – 10:30 صباحاً: حفل الروضة الموسيقي، في قاعة المسرح

                        12:00 ظهراً: نهاية الفصل بالنسبة للروضة

الأحد 9 يونيو –     10:30 صباحاً: الحفل الموسيقي للسنتين 1 و2، في قاعة المسرح

                        12:00 ظهراً: نهاية الفصل بالنسبة للسنتين 1 و2

الإثنين 10 يونيو:  10:30 صباحاً: توزيع الجوائز لطلاب السنوات 3-6، في قاعة المسرح

                        12:00 ظهراً: نهاية الفصل بالنسبة للسنوات 3-6

Re: Year 13 Graduation

Dear Parents,

The International Baccalaureate 2013 graduation ceremony is set for Wednesday, 30^th May at 7:30 pm. in the School’s auditorium.

All graduands will need to be at school at 6:00 p.m. for the graduation photograph.

Graduation rehearsal will be at school on Monday, 27^th May at 10:00 a.m. All students are required to attend.

We will provide you with further information regarding tickets once available.

الموضوع: حفل تخرّج طلاب السنة 13

يوافق موعد حفل تخرّج طلاب السنة 13 لهذا العام، 2013، الخميس 30 مايو، في الساعة 7:30 مساءً، في قاعة مسرح المدرسة.

على جميع المتخرجين أن يكونوا في المدرسة في تمام الساعة 6:00 مساءً لالتقاط صورة التخرج.

تجري تدريبات التخرج في المدرسة يوم الإثنين 27 مايو، في الساعة 10:00 صباحاً. إن حضور جميع المتخرجين إلزامي.
