Help Centre

The Help Centre will again be running throughout the year. For those new parents, not familiar with its role, then some explanation may be needed. I along with other key staff, will be available on a rota basis from 8:10-9:00 a.m. in the mornings and from 2:05-2:45 p.m. in the afternoons, Saturday to Wednesday to help answer parents’ questions, queries and concerns.

We welcome parents dropping in to pass on comments and observations, to share their thoughts with us or just to get to know us a little better over a cup of coffee.

The Help Centre will be moving shortly to the new administration building, which is located at the top of the school drive. Until then it can still be found in the main carpark opposite the sportshall. If you cannot make it in person, then The Help Centre can be contacted direct on 24536273 or you can post any requests through our website “Contact Us” page http://www.sultansschool.org/contactus.htm .

Clive Pierrepont
Director of Development and Admissions

The Parents’ Open Meeting
At “The Parents’ Open Meeting”, held on Monday 3 October 2005, Clive Pierrepont, “Director of Development and Admissions”, and Dr. Rashid Al-Ghafri, Chairman of “The Parents’ Association Committee” jointly presented a new initiative aimed at creating an effective forum for parents to interact and communicate with representatives of the school.

They talked about creating “Parent Grade Representatives” and suggested that:

The main role of the “Parent Grade Representatives” is to build strong working relationships among parents, teachers and the school, in support of students and to resolve any issues that may occur during the course of the year.

Each grade will have four representatives, one from each homeroom. A member of “The Parents’ Association Committee”, with a child in that grade, will also join the meetings. Each parent and “Parents’ Association Committee” representative can only represent one year group.

Each “Parent Grade Representative” will be elected annually at the beginning of the
school year by parents of that class.

The “Parent Grade Representatives” meetings will provide a forum for frank discussion of issues that pertain to that particular grade.

The “Parent Grade Representatives” and The Director of Development and Admissions, will promote opportunities to network with other parents of that grade, to provide a broad, balanced opinion on issues.

“Parent Grade Representatives” will meet at least twice a year with “The Director of Development and Admissions” and the “Key Staff” responsible for that particular grade.

“The Parents’ Association Committee” representatives along with “The Director of Development and Admissions” will monitor the minutes of the meetings and bring to the attention of “The Parents’ Association Committee” any items that may need further discussion at their next meeting.

Minutes will be taken of each meeting and published on the school’s website.

Not every parent was able to manage to be at the meeting; therefore if you have any questions, queries or suggestions please e-mail them to Clive Pierrepont and Doctor Rashid Al-Ghafri at pgrs@sultansschool.org
