Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Riyami Chairman of The Board of
Trustees of The Sultan’s School congratulated the
top five achievers, of sixty nine students, who were entered
for The International General Certificate of General Education
(IGCSE), awarded by The University of Cambridge. The ceremony
held at The Chedi Hotel, was also attended by other Board
of Trustee Members, the press and the proud parents of the
five students.
Also
present was The Director of the Department of Private Schools,
Aisha Al-Balushi. The Chairman warmly praised The Ministry
and applauded them for their efforts to create a very positive
working partnership with the school that enabled students
at the school to, for the first time, benchmark themselves
against the rest of world, by participating in these internationally
recognized examinations.
John Birchall also warmly congratulated the students on
their efforts and recognized that their outstanding results
were even more remarkable as they had been achieved in half
of the time normally allocated to this course of study,
one year instead of two.
Maha Al-Ghafri speaking to the Oman Tribune was quoted as
saying “ I have already decided to become a doctor
and once I get through International Baccalaureate Diploma
(IBP) I won’t have to take the year long foundation
course that most international students have to at foreign
universities.
Saba Al-Mukhaini stated that she had put a lot of hard work
into her studies but “It had really paid off!”
She went on to tell the press she was looking forward to
the challenges of the IBD where she had chosen Business
Studies and Economics among her options “It gives
me more breadth as a student and opens up more options career
wise”
Finally Aisha Al-Balushi stated that “I.G.C.S.E. has
certainly caught the imagination of Omani students. Parents
are now asking other schools why they don’t offer
it”. John Birchall pledged to help other institutions
by sharing the school’s expertise and knowledge with
them if they also chose to go this route.
