| During
the past couple of months we have seen some big changes in
the KG building. The Centre is now complete and is in daily
use by teachers and students for a variety of activities,
including role-play, construction and theme related projects.
The bulletin boards are covered with vibrant, lively displays
that reflect the children’s learning.
Our
recent themes have provided the students with the opportunity
to reflect on and celebrate their culture and heritage. During
the Holy Month of Ramadhan we talked about Islam and the importance
our religion plays in our lives. The students learned about
the Five Pillars of Islam and they recited important Suras
daily. The children celebrated Korankoshoh by visiting each
classroom to give and receive treats and by playing traditional
games. On returning to school after the mid-term break the
students also talked about and drew their Eid celebrations. |
As
National Day approached the students also talked about Oman
and our beloved leader Sultan Qaboos. We also learned about
Oman’s natural beauty, unique clothes and jewelry and
traditional arts, crafts and occupations. We celebrated National
Day with the whole school by attending the Flag Ceremony,
proudly wearing our national dress. For many KG students it
was their first experience of going to ‘the big school’
and for the teachers it was a very proud and emotional moment
to see our students walk across the stage and receive such
an enthusiastic welcome.
We
have a busy and interesting semester’s work planned
through the theme of ‘The Living World’ as each
year group investigates and observes different aspects of
the natural world. We will all visit the farm and the beach
as part of this learning experience to take advantage of the
wonderful climate Oman offers us during the winter months.
