From the Head of Lower Primary

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Mrs Emma-Kate Gower but the students call me ‘Miss Kate’. I moved to Oman in August with my husband Tony, my 4 year old daughter Kaia and my 2 year old son Max. We came here from Hong Kong, where I have lived for most of my life. We are very happy to be here at The Sultan’s School and are very much looking forward to exploring the beautiful country of Oman.

My job as Head of the Lower Primary has got off to a smooth start with the help of an excellent team of Arabic and English teachers. I say ‘team’ as it is only through our combined way of teaching and class sharing that we are able to deliver the excellent bilingual curriculum to the students of the Sultan’s School. There are a few staff changes this year in Lower Primary: new to the school is Mrs Emma Wright, who joins us from her previous school in Portugal. Mrs Jayne Deadman moves up to Grade 1 from her role as a Kindergarten teacher last year. Mrs Sheri Storer joins me as a Grade 2 teacher after her faithful work at the school last semester on supply. Miss Larissa Ryan has moved from Grade 6 to teach grade 3 this year.

Grade 1

Grade 1 have got off to a racing start and are settling nicely into the routines of the Primary School. They are working through their alphabet and learning sounds and sight words.
Grade 2

Grade 2 are working hard and enjoying a range of activities to consolidate and strengthen their learning. They have been learning about healthy eating in science and are getting to grips with numbers to 100 in maths.

Grade 3

At the top of the Lower Primary School, we expect a great deal from our Grade 3 students and ask them to act as role models for the younger children. They are working hard academically and are also enjoying the playground!
Finally we would like to take this opportunity to wish all the very best to Mrs Karima Chaouch of 3R for the safe arrival of her son, due on 25th December 2006.
A Happy Ramadan to all families from the Lower Primary Team
