As
we now enter a tremendously busy time
for everyone within the Primary Department, it is time to reflect
on last semester and highlight the priorities for the rest of the school
year. The National Day Celebration this year gave an opportunity
for many students to perform in front of parents for the first time.
This they did to considerable acclaim in what proved to be a very
enjoyable and just celebration of this great occasion.
The Winter Concert involved all the Elementary Grades both in the
choir and as individual musicians. Over 500 students were involved
and nearly 500 parents attended, the numbers speak for themselves.
The Lower Elementary Field Day was enjoyed by both students and
parents alike, many thanks to the PE Department for the degree of
planning and organisation involved.
During this semester the curriculum for Grades 5,6, 7 and 8 will
be under review as we continue to look to provide the best possible
preparation for students beginning their IGCSE courses in Grade
9.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the Primary Staff
for their efforts this semester and on their behalf thank parents and families for their continued support.

When
we were approached by representatives of the Oman Cricket Club to
hold Kwik Cricket sessions in school for some of our younger students,
little did we realise what a tremendous success it would turn out
to be. The sessions were aimed at Grade 3 and Grade 4 students,
the first time Grade 3 had been involved in this kind of after school
activity. The response exceeded all expectations and each Wednesday
over thirty boys and girls have been involved in fun games aimed
at raising the skill levels of those students involved. The Oman
Cricket Club quite rightly prides itself on its forward thinking
to further raise the awareness of the game amongst Omani children
and continue their rapid rise in status on the world stage.
Prior to the first session three aims were identified:
• Enjoyment
• Raising the awareness of the game
• Identifying those students with a flair for the game and
giving them the opportunity to develop their skills at a higher
level
All these aims have been achieved. My thanks to all those involved
and a message for the students, keep up the good work.
