Military Camp

After the great success of last year’s military camp at The Royal Guard of Oman, a second camp was arranged for three continuous weeks, from 22nd December 2007 until 9th January 2008.

This year’s camp targeted Grade 11 students and was held at The Royal Oman Police. Girls participated as police women. The total number of participants was 48 students, 28 boys and 19 girls. They were supervised by Mr. Saud Az’zidjali.

Different types of activities were covered, such as marching, shooting, map work, camping and a lot of theory lessons on first aid, drugs, road safety and security. Some special sports were added during the camp which covered basic karate, Swedish sports and running.

The daily routine started early morning, at 5:30, to attend “Alfajer” prayer at the mosque. This was followed by sports lessons. Theory lessons were held at The conference hall between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m., after which Omani coffee was served.

To teach self-dependence, groups were arranged for cleaning the accommodation on a daily basis. The students were also responsible for washing their clothes, tidying up their rooms and the common room, and making their beds. There was a time for fun at The Common Room which was furnished with sofas and a television connected to the satellite. The daily bedtime was at 10:30 p.m. when all the lights were turned off and quiet was expected.

The Military Adventure Camp 2007 – 2008 ended with an excellent Graduation Ceremony attended by Liwa Salim Musalam Qatan, HE Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Riyami (The Chairman of The Board of Trustees) the leader of ROP Training Centre, police officers, and the parents.
