THE NEWSLETTER OF THE SULTAN’S SCHOOL
Volume I, Issue I1, 1st April 2005

From The Principal

The start of the second semester sees the school as busy as ever. Visitors to the campus will encounter lots of activity connected with the construction of our new Kindergarten Block and Administration Building. Once completed, the latter will allow us scope to upgrade our library provision to better suit the needs of the Elementary School whilst at the same time responding to the demands of the new IGCSE and IB curriculums. With respect to these courses, progress is good and early feedback from IGCSE students encouraging. Staff within the Secondary Section are involved currently in attending training courses to assist them in their preparation for next September's launch of the IB.

Many exciting events have taken place since the last issue such as Art exhibitions, Book Week, Sports Day and Model United Nations. Most of these and others are featured in these pages. We applaud the efforts and enthusiasm of the staff who make all these extra events possible.

My thanks to all the parents - 79% of all families in the school - who completed and returned our biennial Parents' Survey. The results of this have now been tabulated and copies issued at the Founders' Day Parents' Open Meeting. Anyone not present who wishes a copy should request one at the School Office via their son or daughter. Over 600 individual comments were made in addition to responses to the individual items in the survey. These comments have all been collated and passed to relevant sections of the school for consideration and follow-up. The exercise has been very worthwhile and we look forward to charting our progress against this benchmark in two years time.

Finally thanks to those parents who e-mailed feedback on the new format School Bulletin. All the comments received were very positive and any further comment on this second edition is equally welcome.

IB NEWS
In February I attended a 3 day Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) workshop held at Munich International School. The programme concentrated on the latest developments in CAS followed by excellent workshops presented by outstanding CAS co-ordinators from a number of international schools. The conference was most rewarding and I look forward to guiding our first group of students through the programme next year.

In preparation, I will be sharing with parents and students all of the information related to CAS during the Grade 10 Induction cycle. CAS is a fundamental part of the IB programme with far reaching benefits for both the individual and the community.
