Grade 9 Trip to the Al-Ghubra Power Station
After a challenging week of exams, Grade 9 Physics students enjoyed a visit to the Al-Ghubra Desalination and Power Station. Students were able to see the boilers, turbines and generators that provide electricity to homes in the Muscat region. They asked keen questions about energy resources, pollution and efficiency. They learned about the reasons for building a power station and a desalination plant side-by-side. Students also enjoyed a walk along the beach to see the seawater entering the desalination plant.
Lower Elementary Art Exhibition

The 11th January saw the first "Art Evening" in a new approach to the displaying of artistic talents at the Sultan's School. Rather than one large art exhibition at the end of the year, The Art Department has broken the grades up into three evenings, the first being a celebration of artwork by pupils from grades one to three, and including displays of work by pupils in the Kindergarten.

Work was judged by Joanne Saunders, Art specialist at the British School, Muscat, who later presented prizes to the winners. There was an enthusiastic attendance by staff, parents and pupils and we look forward to planning the next art evening for grade four to seven.

Ski Trip 2005
Nine hours ahead with nothing to do but watch a movie and drink but water and coke, somehow the excitement of going to Switzerland had drained away. That was how the ski trip started: the moment we landed in Zurich for a transit flight to Geneva the excitement started to build again.

Again the ski trip was a complete success and everybody learned how to ski a little bit, even Mr Paul Davis. It was tremendous fun and was very exciting; Mr Marwan said it was the best ski trip yet. We were a small group but that made it even better, everybody made the ski trip fun in their own way. Muhannad with his non stop jokes Haider who danced when he was happy and Harib with the non stop UNO.

I would like to thank Mr Marwan for organizing the trip, Mr Paul who decided to come along and make his own UNO rules and finally two people who most of you don't know-the two people who taught us how to ski, Tom or Spider, as he prefers to be called and Hussain Shah who were with us at all times.
